Dorothy Rothschild Parker (August 22/1893–June 7/1967) was an American writer and poet, well known for her caustic wit and wisecracks. After having had a conflicted and unhappy childhood, Parker became popular for her literary work in The New Yorker and as a founding member of the Algonquin Round Table. After the breakup of that circle, she went to Hollywood to become a screenwriter.
